What is SCR and how does it work?

SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) transforms the harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the exhaust of diesel vehicles into harmless nitrogen gas and water vapour. The SCR solution is metered into the exhaust system in front of a catalyst. The urea hydrolyses to ammonia which then reacts with the NOx in the exhaust gas.
Nonox - how scr works

Euro IV/ V emission regulations limited the amounts of (NOx) and particulates that commercial diesel vehicles could emit. These limits will reduce again for Euro VI with the introduction of higher Euro standard commence in the future. To reach these standards, the majority of truck and bus manufacturers have chosen the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system as a common solution. Another benefit for vehicle operators is that by using the SCR system the engine can be tuned for maximum fuel economy and prolong the service interval for the vehicles
